IP Estimator
Overview
The IP Estimator tool provides an estimate of live systems on a local area network (LAN) by performing a ping scan using the agent. This is a quick and free scan that typically takes about 15 minutes to start and will not affect your IP balance. The results are an estimate and the actual number of live systems on a network could be more since not everything responds to a ping. This feature will not work to estimate external IPs.
What to expect

Scan Duration: Approximately 15 minutes to start. Large IP ranges will take longer to get results.

Cost: Free.

Impact: No effect on your IP balance and very little network load during scanning.

Notification: You will receive an email from vPenTest when the discovery is complete.

Results: A list of IPs will be available on the Manage IPs tab of the Company Profile.
Steps to use the IP Estimator
Option 1: From vPenTest

Log into vPentest and navigate to any of the pages below and click Launch IP Estimator.

From the pop-up modal, provide the following:

Select a Company: Choose the company for which you want to run the IP Estimator.

Select an Agent: Pick the agent that will perform the scan.

Provide IP Addresses: Enter the list of IP addresses you want to include. You can provide:

Single IP addresses

Network ranges in CIDR notation (e.g., 192.168.1.x/24)

IP ranges (e.g., 192.168.1.1-5)

Separate multiple IPs/ranges with commas or new lines

Recipients: Select the recipients that should receive an email notification.
Option 2: Direct run on the Agent

Launch the vPenTest Menu by logging into the terminal as root, or by typing vpt from the command-line interface.

Select option 4 for IP Estimator

Provide the IP addresses, ranges, or a text file containing IPs and/or ranges to the menu prompt.
NOTE Running IP Estimator directly from the agent will not send an email or populate the Manage IPs section in the app. The results will be provided directly in the CLI.
