Can an internal assessment be performed over a VPN?

ANSWER  Yes, but we don't recommend it.

While internal assessments can be performed over a VPN, we highly recommend only performing internal assessments from within the network that will be tested. When performing an assessment over a VPN connection, there are many layer 2 attacks that the assessment will not be able to perform due to the VM being isolated on its own subnet.
